Sustainability Management 2009

Sustainable agriculture and no-till farming

Water, land and energy: these are key components in sustainability. Sustainability management conference 2009, hosted in Denver, Col. February 11-13, was designed to bring producers, ag businesses, industry reps and academics together to discuss one major theme: how does agriculture become part of an initiative to help produce more, while conserving more.

By the year 2050 global population is projected to be nine billion. This trend combined with higher dietary demands taking place in emerging economies, means to meet the worlds’ food demand, agriculture must double its food production. This means producing as much food in the next 50 years as was produced in the past 10,000 years. And most importantly, production must be done in a manner that conserves resources.

During the conference sponsored by Monsanto Company, a wide array of topics were covered to help agriculture produce more while conserving more:

  • Global markets
  • Water Trends on the High Plains
  • Plant Stressors in Corn
  • Stress Mitigating Best Management Practices
  • Industry R&D Pipelines
  • Need for Innovation in Agriculture
